In 1994, the people of Texas elected a moron to run our state.  That moron went on to become President, forever shaming our state as a modern petri dish for incompetent politicians. Ever since then, grassroots activists and good Democrats in Texas have been working hard to overcome that reputation.  Rest assured, on March 4, 2008, everything changes.

update!!:  Hey, just got word that we've nailed a date for BHO's Fort Worth rally.  It will be this Thursday evening, Feb 28! No idea on what the venue will be, but keep your eyes on this URL. As soon as the info is updated in BHO's web system it will be posted here.  Do NOT be confused by the "invalid" link. That is the routine system message that will appear until the event is posted.  Scroll down, I've got info on other upcoming appearances in Texas.

I have been working hard for the Obama campaign here in North Texas. I help run our Eastside Fort Worth office.  In the last two weeks, I've put in at least 60 volunteer hours.  This is on top of the 40 hours I work every week and the 8+ hours I spend in a classroom.  My husband has put in nearly 80 volunteer hours in two weeks on top of his full time job. We have also moved our field director into our spare bedroom. Basically, like every other Obama supporter I've met thus far, we are doing everything we possibly can.  We are giving everything we possibly can.  We will not rest until March 5. If you'd like to read exactly what we've been doing, Just Another Vet has been blogging the events in Fort Worth daily.

Our story is not unique.  Thousands of volunteers across Texas are working furiously (3400 volunteers in Tarrant County alone!). We are training precinct captains and caucus goers, we are running phone banks and canvass teams, we are identifying our voters and prepping for GOTV/GOTC. We are absolutely determined to erase the stain that is GWB from our reputation.  And we are even more determined that what started in Texas with Bush's election in 1994 will end on March 4th.  We are acutely aware that we Texans can end this primary, and WE WILL.

I took some time this morning to make a little Youtube video of what's happening on the ground here.  This video is FOR the volunteers like me who are working so hard and struggling to balance home/work/school/family/everything else... The pictures included in the video show supporters and volunteers around the state working hard to elect Senator Obama, and I tossed in a few pics from the big rallies as well.  I hope this video will give everyone a bit of extra energy and motivation.

I know we can win in Texas.  With your help, we will.  Make calls today!  YES WE WILL!

update: I think you guys just killed Youtube.  It's dead.  I've uploaded the video to metacafe but can't seem to embed it so... click this link to watch the video! Ok, I figured out which tag was freaking out the site so now we have embedded video.  Here is a link to the video on youtube, although youtube seems to be completely and utterly down now.  update2: Ummmm I think you guys killed metacafe, too!  If you can't load the video right away, please try again in a bit.  Wow, I guess that video went over well. Heh.  Please do try to load it again via youtube or metacafe in a few minutes.  If I can get it uploaded elsewhere, I will do so. Metacafe now working again.  Youtube, not so much. =)

Youtube is working again so I've changed the embed.  I'm sure it would not be a bad thing to ask yall to view it there as well and try to push it up the list... =)

You must add at least one tag to this diary before publishing it.

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?
