Iowa Nice (with poll)

Sun Dec 30, 2007 at 05:31:48 PM PDT

I'm going to throw a wrench into the "last-minute decider" that the MSM likes to repeat over and over.

My wife has known for a month that she's going to caucus for Candidate X. And she's decided that she will not caucus for Candidate Y unless Y gets the party's nomination -- and even then she's not going to be happy when she casts that vote.

Well, an older man called the house this afternoon from Candidate Y's campaign to see if my wife had made up her mind.

No, she told him. Not yet.

When I asked why she said that, she said: Well, he seemed like a nice guy and I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

That's fairly typical for Iowans -- they know the volunteers calling are probably other Iowans working hard for their candidate. My wife has worked phone banks for candidates, so she knows it's not much fun to call up total strangers and ask for their support.

Is she still going to caucus for Candidate X? Absolutely.

But it made me wonder: Are the undecideds a lot smaller group than we think?
