Hillary's MoveOn Provocation: Don't Take The Bait!!!

Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 04:46:01 PM PDT

By now you've probably seen the story up on the Huffington Post about Sen. Clinton's sorry little slam of the Democratic Party's "activist base".

At a small closed-door fundraiser after Super Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton blamed what she called the "activist base" of the Democratic Party -- and MoveOn.org in particular -- for many of her electoral defeats, saying activists had "flooded" state caucuses and "intimidated" her supporters, according to an audio recording of the event obtained by The Huffington Post.

Yup, she went there. Once again using Rovian smears against another Democrat.

Here's the thing, though:

ITS ALL A BULLSHIT PROVOCATION

This is nothing more than an attempt at setting up yet another "tearful moment" to rally her constituency for Tuesday.

Here's the narrative she's trying to create:

"Sure, that Obama guy has tons of money and grassroots support but its all outside agitators and San Francisco Liberals, not real Democrats like you and me."

She knows she's lost the Progressive vote and the only trick she has left is to pander to those voters who are tried-and-true Democrats but who think that everyone from California is a bong-toting granolavore.

We must resist the the urge to call down the hellfire on her for this since to do so will only play into her hands and give her a villain in her little pity play.

Like our favorite candidate, we've gotta take this in stride and just...

... brush it the hell off.

Now is the time when we prove that we're a durable and mature political force by avoiding this obvious and ham-handed attempt to divide the party and pick a fight. Moreso than that, I think we'd be wise to use this opportunity to flip the script and reach out to our UnionDem compatriots and remind 'em that we're all on the same side.

In any case, we must avoid taking the bait this time. If you don't know a Union Dem you can reach out to, then go for a walk, get away from the computer, then call your local SuperDelegate on Wed. to ask them if they think this sort of divide-and-conquer BS is good for the party.

Nice try, Sen. Clinton. We're not buying it.
