How to Succeed at Mojo Friday Without Really Trying
Thu Feb 14, 2008 at 10:42:38 AM PDT
Greetings, MF'ers! If you're not a MF'er, this diary is probably not for you. Just what is a MF'er? (You need to ask? Maybe this diary IS for you after all).
M·F'er, n (em' effer)
1. An inidividual who participates in TexDem's Mojo Friday diaries on Daily Kos
Now that we have that out of the way (and, perhaps, you've looked at an actual Mojo Friday diary), how does one succeed in a Mojo Friday diary? As I suggested in the title, succeeding at Mojo Friday is easy! And fun! To find out how, sink with me below the fold....
Mojo Friday - Auld Lang Syne Edition
Fri Dec 28, 2007 at 07:15:54 AM PDT
As 2007 draws to a close, many of us will pause to remember friends, relatives, and others whom we cherish. This week's Mojo Friday theme is centered around remembrance, and as always, in a fun way.
"Auld Lang Syne" is a song by Robert Burns (1759-1796), although a similar poem by Robert Ayton (1570-1638), as well as older folk songs, use the same phrase, and may well have inspired Burns. In any case, it is one of the better-known songs in English-speaking countries, and it is often sung at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day. Like many other frequently sung songs, the melody is better remembered than the words, which are often sung incorrectly, and seldom in full.
While Habeas Corpus and the Fourth Amendment are gone but not forgotten, I'm pretty sure these will return in 2009.
Fill your glasses and join me over the jump....
Liveblog II: Torture: House Judiciary Committee
Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 08:36:33 AM PDT
UPDATE: Adjourned around 12:45 p.m. EST
This morning starting at 10:00 a.m. EST, the House Judiciary Sub-Committee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties will be holding an Oversight Hearing on the Inhuman, and Degrading Treatment of Detainees: The Effectiveness and Consequences of "Enhanced" Interrogation.
This may be a humdinger as one of the witnesses, former Navy Seal instructor, Malcom W. Nance has already warned that there will be a spectacle on C-Span if his integrity is questioned.
Please DO NOT RECOMMEND this diary. Recommend the Mothership.
DO NOT POST PICTURES.

Liveblog 4: Waxman/House Oversight Committee: Blackwater
Tue Oct 02, 2007 at 09:51:16 AM PDT
UPDATE: GO TO PART 5 HERE
The hearing is titled "Private Security Firms in Iraq" will cover "the mission and performance of Blackwater USA and its affiliated companies in Iraq and Afghanistan and to review whether the reliance of the U.S. government on private security contractors is serving U.S. interests in Iraq". It is being held by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee; chaired by Henry Waxman.
The hearing will address three key questions: (1) Is Blackwater's presence advancing or undermining U.S. efforts? (2) Has State Department responded appropriately to the shooting incidents involving Blackwater forces? (3) What are the costs to U.S. taxpayers for the reliance on Blackwater and other private military contractors?

UPDATE 12:55PM ET Hearing adjourned.
Thanks to Lurks a Lot for starting the liveblog on this hearing. The Senate Judiciary Committee is always better than any Committee in the House so hopefully this will be an interesting hearing.
It's McConnell redux on the Hill today, this time with SJC. I'm wondering if anyone will pursue McConnell's "selective declassification" from previous hearings as summarized in drational's diary from yesterday.
There's no Mothership so PLEASE RECOMMEND THIS DIARY

"That little monkey gets loose, doesn't he!"
Mon Apr 09, 2007 at 07:31:21 PM PDT
UPDATE
Pardon my inaccuate memory...here's the actual quote:
"that little monkey gets loose, doesn't he,"
H/T to Too Little Sleep
(previous title, my inaccurate memory of "look at that monkey run")
Forgive my indulgence, but I hope I can make this the "be all, end all" of the Imus diaries today. If you remember the title quote, follow me over the fold....

Bush's Sabre-Rattling Enriches the "Enemy"
Sat Feb 17, 2007 at 06:49:18 AM PDT
I was reading The New Yorker this morning (a ritual, such as it is) when I came across The Financial Page: Troubled Waters Over Oil. What troubled me upon reading it was the effect that the bellicose statements by the Bush administration about Iran have on the Risk Permium on oil. In a nutshell, the more Bush blathers on about Iran, the more money Iran makes from oil.
More over the jump....
LiveBlogging: Judgement Day (Part II)
Fri Feb 16, 2007 at 09:14:59 AM PDT
This is it. The last day; the final push. Today the House finishes their debates and votes on whether or not they support the president's latest attempt to salvage his legacy escalation.
The pattern, so far, has been familiar: the Democrats have used logic, facts and stats while the Republicans use insults and try to tug at America's heartstrings.
Still it's fun theater. Why? Because we and the world get to see the Republicans for what they really are.
It's so much easier to make a prepared speech a week or month in advance, but most of these guys are going off the fly and that's why I think our side is winning the argument. Democrats have been collecting information for years on anything and everything touched by this war. The Republicans have gotten lazy, and dependent on the White house for intel, which is why their debates sound strangely familiar.
I Don't Want To Grow Up
Tue Dec 26, 2006 at 07:58:52 PM PDT
As many of you are aware, OPOL had a rather controversial diary that was up on the rec list last night. I've never had an occasion to diary before now, but somehow I feel compelled to.
I must say from the outset that I am on his "side", per se, in that I believe that the ONLY way to stop the madness is impeachment. Duhbya WILL NOT change anything (e.g., "surge") no matter what Daddy, Baker, or anyone else says; if we, the people, are to stop the unnecessary killing of both civilians and American soldiers in Iraq, Junior has GOT to go. There is no way to "win" in Iraq, and the petulant so-called Commander in Chief stedfastly refuses to listen to any sane voice that says otherwise.
The ONLY way to make him go is impeachment. OK. Disagree with that if you will. (Heh...didn't think ya would....)
