John McCain Hates Gays and Muslims
Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 10:27:12 PM PDT
John McCain must be held accountable for the vitrolic, hateful, and homophobic rants that his self-proclaimed spiritual advisor continues to spew. It is time for us as a Progressive Community to add our voice to the public discourse, which allows for the double standard that has led to the unfavorable media coverage of our potential Democratic Presidential Nominee. As Obama continues to be attacked by the right wing pundits of the MSM, McCain enjoys the free pass issued by the same media who are more than eager to play the Rev. Wrights videos in an endless loop. It remains fairly evident that Rev. Rod Parsley is a far more corrosive figure than Rev. Wright, and its high time we call the media out on this.
More after the fold.
No Religious Test

In the spirit of keeping on topic, after the parade of religious diaries submitted recently, I feel the need to vent. First of all, full disclosure. I am a Barack Obama supporter. I'm also a bit of a deist, that is to say that I don't believe in organized worship, however, I'm willing to hedge my bets that there may be a God although I'm quite sure there is not. I guess I'm complicated to say the least.
A Whisper at the University of Houston-Downtown Campus

As KHOU Channel 11, a local news station here in Houston, Texas, turned to election news at 5 0'clock, I was beginning to think that maybe we would not be on the news after all. Their coverage showed the throng of Hispanic voters in El Paso eager to see the former First Lady and Senator from N.Y., and I just knew our meager rally to garner support for Obama would not be shown. As I waited for our coverage, I was somewhat embarassed about our pitiful attempt at a rally for Obama. However, to my surprise, here comes the footage of my brother, my 2 yr.old son, and me, all passing out flyers to announce the Houston Students for Barack Obama Kickoff on Feb. 19th.
Why Do You Come Here?

It seems that the primary season has brought out not only the best in each and everyone one of us, but also a bit of the worst. Although I can no way speak for everyone here, I don't believe personal attacks, hit diaries, and distorting others statements will change anyone's support for his/her candidate. This being said, we really need to remember why we really come to this site.
We All Own a Part of Obama

First of all, I would like to introduce myself to everyone here on this site. My name is Joe Martinez, and I'm a 34 year old Hispanic male, college student, father of two young boys, and liberal democrat. I have never written a diary before, so I would appreciate a small bit of leeway in this being my first effort.
I guess you could say that I have had a tough time living in a state, which many consider to be the farthest to the right, and producing the worst president in the history of our nation. For the most part of my adult life, I have quietly made my way through my life, not really caring about politics or the problems we face as a nation.
