CA not taking any crap from Bill

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 04:30:32 PM PDT

Lots of news in California and it all seems to be good news for Barack Obama as Clinton's inevitability campaign in California is being called into question.

Digby in LA; Robert Greenwald Headlines SF Blograiser

Wed Jun 27, 2007 at 12:27:38 PM PDT

I'm proud to announce Director Robert Greenwald will be the very Special Guest at tonight's blograiser in San Francisco. And Digby is headlining our event in Santa Monica. Tonight will so be what comes before Part B.

CA-04: Matt Stoller Interviewing Charlie Brown Video

Wed Mar 28, 2007 at 06:59:38 PM PDT

In 2006, Lt. Cononel Charlie Brown (USAF, Ret.) ran a great campaign. Congressman John Doolittle is probably the most corrupt member of congress and this cycle Charlie Brown is challenging him again and getting an earlier start.

OH-02: Paul Hackett on Affirmative Action: Takes it

Wed Jan 10, 2007 at 02:02:01 PM PDT

Usually, when Paul Hackett ends up in the paper, it is going to be worth a read. I remember what I considered his great framing by tying gay marriage to the second amendment (the government shouldn't care about what my neighbors do in the privacy of their own home any more than they care about what I keep in my gun safe).

But now it looks like Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (who was plagued by scandal as GOP Treasurer) is looking to take on Hackett in a way that is clearly backfiring and turning Hackett into even more of a hero in Ohio's second district.

Rahm Emanuel May Drive the 50 State Strategy

Thu Jan 04, 2007 at 07:41:53 PM PDT

Those old school DKos users who know me realize that in the past I have given some too-public quotes that derided Congressman Emanuel. And I still know Rahm was wrong about running everywhere and way too late in making Iraq an issue -- but I think his ascendancy to Caucus Chair may ensure a true 50 state strategy in 2008.

CA-10: Ellen Tauscher Weekly, V1.02

Sun Dec 24, 2006 at 12:03:08 PM PDT

If last week was defined by Katie Merrill catapulting a primary campaign against Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, this was the week that Tauscher tried in vain to distance herself from Joe Lieberman.

The following is how the week developed, you can sign up to get this delivered by email at the Ellen Tauscher Weekly.

CA-10: Ellen Tauscher and Speaker Pelosi

Thu Dec 21, 2006 at 09:08:13 PM PDT

Some say the feud between Nancy Pelosi and Ellen Tauscher has always existed. Some say that it that it is a Hatfield-McCoy story that goes back generations in east coast politics. But one thing is clear, it erupted in the press during the summer of 2001:

CA-10: Counterproductive Katie Merrill

Wed Dec 13, 2006 at 10:40:07 PM PDT

Katie Merrill

If Katie Merrill had the goal of preventing a primary campaign against Ellen Tauscher, it might not have been the best strategy to provoke the publisher of the most widely read political blog in the world into declaring, "So in CA-10, we will have a candidate, and there will be a primary."

But as Jane Hamsher noted, Tauscher has greater problems than netroots. Sure, California bloggers are going to cover this race closely (Calitics is averaging more than a post a day on Ellen Tauscher in December of all months and Markos lives in the east bay). And sure, if things get interesting the national blogs will have the ability to get the race nationwide attention. But all of that will be focused towards understanding and supporting what is actually going on in California's 10th congressional district.

HUGE setback for Impeachment

Sun Dec 10, 2006 at 03:49:45 PM PDT

As somebody who believes Impeachment will be the logical end to investigation of the Cheney Administration, and realizing the importance of the issue (thanks Kagro X), I went to the much hyped Impeachment protests today.

Living in San Francisco, I was expecting to see many others. I mean, just a month ago, a City-wide initiative calling for Impeachment passed in a landslide -- winning by almost 20% points.

But what I saw can only be described as a major setback for the effort.

Hotline: Steve Gilliard Should STFU (updated)

Sun Dec 03, 2006 at 10:25:47 PM PDT

Before anyone accuses me of calling out another poster by name, I just want to point out that I'm linking to an article. And maybe I agree with the Hotline's Daniel Glover when he writes about the blogosphere and says Steve Gilliard, does NOT "deserve to be heard".

Just because Gilliard was a popular Daily Kos front page poster, doesn't mean he deserves to be heard. Just because Gilliard (with help from Jen) has run a popular blog since August 2003, doesn't mean he deserves to be heard.

Just because you should read The News Blog doesn't mean Steve deserves to be heard. Why? Because a beltway type doesn't think Steve debates with "civility and dignity."

Cal Dems' $4 Million Election Day Check

Thu Nov 30, 2006 at 07:14:28 PM PDT

The California Democratic Party spent $3 million on GOTV this election cycle, but on Election Day wrote a $4 million check to state Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.

If the check had been written a day later, it would have been illegal. And if it had been written a day earlier, it could have resulted in negative press that would make the Democratic Party look hypocritical for campaigning against the GOP Culture of Corruption. Hence the odd timing of the check that makes no sense.

To-date, most of the discussion about the money has focused upon whether it was proper. I would prefer to focus on whether the transaction was strategic. Below I offer various other scenarios laying out rough budgets for how the CDP could have invested the $4 million dollars.

You can't have a thought until you've taken a poll

Wed Nov 22, 2006 at 10:18:08 PM PDT

Before reading this diary, please read my last one on Max Baucus -- who is the GOP's number one target to enable Dick Cheney to cast a tie-breaking vote in the senate.

Simple question, have you ever read a quote that sums up so perfectly everything that is wrong with the Democratic Party?

As a former Baucus campaign coordinator said, "You can't have a thought until you've taken a poll."

To put that in context, check out what came before in the article:

Will Senator Max Baucus Let Dick Cheney Vote?

Mon Nov 20, 2006 at 06:25:41 PM PDT

The score in the senate is that a single Democratic defection allows Dick Cheney to decide the issue. For Republicans, the number one target to undermine Harry Reid's leadership is Max Baucus. Even the conservative Joe Lieberman Weekly wrote, "What Baucus does is use his influence as the top Democrat on the Finance Committee to systematically undercut his party and enable George W. Bush's most egregious domestic legislation."

Today's Washington Post has a story, Democrats to Push Pocketbook Issues where we see Baucus hinting of siding with big corporations to undermine Harry Reid and screw over working people:

The Multiplier: Google Bomb The Elections

Wed Oct 25, 2006 at 11:57:17 AM PDT

Now that you have followed Chris Bowers and joined the effort to by adding the source code to google bomb the election to your blog our website, spend another few minutes and let your blogging software multiply the effect by adding the code to your blog template.

Here's why. Each time you post a link, you are telling google that you are voting for that link to be relevant to the text you used for the link when people search for that term. When you wrote a post using the code, your blog automatically created at least one archive page. This means that google will see two our three different pages on your blog where you are voting for the our articles to be relevant for each Republican in question.

But here is how to kick it up a notch: add the links to your blog's template.

DLC won't downplay Iran threat like GOP fears

Wed Aug 23, 2006 at 09:57:53 PM PDT

The New York Times writes:

Some senior Bush administration officials and top Republican lawmakers are voicing anger that American spy agencies have not issued more ominous warnings about the threats that they say Iran presents to the United States.

Don't worry, the GOP knows that the Lieberman DLC wing of the Party will push an invasion just like they pushed to invade Iraq. The same people who shit the bed in Iraq aren't planning to unshit the bed, but to shit the bed in Iran. The DLC will be there for Bush when it comes to making the case.

CA-04: John Doolitte: Corrupt or Ineffective (with poll)

Fri Aug 18, 2006 at 12:50:24 PM PDT

Republican John Doolittle is the last of big member of Jack Abramoff's congressman who hasn't gone down. Duke Cunningham, Tom DeLay, Bob Ney -- they are all out the door and Doolittle is next.

The Charlie Brown campaign is very aggressive and just launched a new website on Doolitte: www.CorruptOrIneffective.com.

Today's Sacramento Bee reports:

Dems UnEndorse Joe Lieberman; Karl Rove Endorses

Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 10:29:36 AM PDT

You can track former supporters of Joe Lieberman who are now backing Ned Lamont at www.UnEndorsed.blogspot.com. Meanwhile, Karl Rove is going to bat for his favorite (former) Democrat:
According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

UNENDORSED - Lieberman's lost support

Tue Aug 08, 2006 at 08:45:07 PM PDT

See the support Joe Lieberman lost tonight at www.UnEndorsed.blogspot.com. This website contains the quotes of statewide and national Democrats who once supported Joe, but no more.

Please use the comments for any links to quotes from big-time Dems who have abandoned Lieberman in the last few hours.

Thanks for helping, please feel free to send this along to members of the press.
