BREAKING: We may get to the bottom of this. Iraq. (Update 4)

Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 05:28:38 AM PDT

(standard disclaimer) Ok so not much of a diary here, but this is big news.

I am an English man in this fine country we call America. I don't post many diaries, but this just took my breath away. There have been several stories out of the UK in recent weeks, the British government have been forced to release information regarding the decisions to go to war in Iraq.

The first was the release of the intelligence dossier that was used to build the case for war with Iraq. The original dossier was release and the controversial claim that Iraq could launch WMD in 45 minutes was not in the original dossier, drafted by intelligence agencies. It was in the released version, after being edited by politicians.

Now the British government have been ordered to release further information regarding the decisions to go to war. Two sets of minutes from cabinet level meetings.

The government has been ordered today to release the minutes of cabinet meetings in which military action against Iraq was discussed.

Patrick Fitzgerald could have stopped 9/11?

Fri Nov 17, 2006 at 09:58:42 AM PDT

Harper Collins (owned by Rupert Murdoch) is about to release a book by Peter Lance, that appears to blame 9/11 on... wait for it... not Clinton but Patrick Fitzgerald.

BATON ROUGE (Reuters) - Louisiana's governor condemned the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Tuesday for moving too slowly to recover the dead from New Orleans and has signed a contract directly on behalf of the state with the recovery company originally hired by FEMA.

"I have taken action today to resolve a matter that involves life, death and dignity," Kathleen Blanco told reporters at a meeting of state elected officials.

"I can not stand by while this vital operation is not being handled appropriately."

Another big lie, Diego Garcia.

"This is a shocking, almost incredible story. A government calling itself civilised tricked and expelled its most vulnerable citizens so that it could give their homeland to a foreign power...ministers and their officials then mounted a campaign of deception all the way up to the prime minister." John Pilger

"I'm a source, not a target." badge in 2003

In this photograph taken in June 2003, Karl Rove, senior advisor to President Bush and Robert Novak are pictured together at a party marking the 40th anniversary of Novak's newspaper column at the Army Navy Club in Washington DC. At the event a number of people wore buttons reading, "I'm a source, not a target." Rove is at the center of a controversy about the leaking of a CIA operative's identity which originally appeared in Novak's newspaper column. (AP Photo/Lauren Shay)

A short story...

Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 01:40:32 PM PDT

Once upon a time the people of Kos wanted to win back their country. It was decided that good ideas and fight were not the best option; door to door grass root support was, thats for the moment let the GOP dig their own grave, so the Dems did and did not come up with their own policy, this is their story, this is also the story of joe public....

DSM, who is leaking? Some thoughts....

Fri Jun 17, 2005 at 07:44:46 AM PDT

The minutes, something people have not been talking about is who is leaking them. I heard one person on DU think it was Galloway. Galloway would not have been anywhere near close enough to Blair to have access to these document so that suggestion is laughable (never mind that the Labor party has been trying to destroy him since just after the war). It's not, it must be somebody very close to Blair. Think about it, it seems that after the first memo was leaked and the defense of "what does fixed mean in England" was used, we saw some more specific memos come out. They were not leaked at the same time, it's as if somebody wanted to finish the job. "The job" being the reason VERY high level minutes were leaked in the first place. Remember only maybe 10 or so people have access to that level of documents.

Evidence of false statements made by Tony Blair Parliament and the media

Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 10:12:29 AM PDT

http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~mhl24/leaksbriefingv3.htm

"This is substantive evidence of positive falsehood on the part of the Prime Minister, not simply an omission of evidence."

"Claims by the Prime Minister and others that it was only Saddam's unwillingness to cooperate with renewed inspections that led to war were therefore misleading. These policy documents clearly show an intention to use (and arguably abuse) the UN route to provide a legal pretext for pre-decided regime change, not as a route to peaceful disarmament."

Mercury in the enviroment.

Wed Jun 08, 2005 at 02:07:33 PM PDT

Clean air or clean skies? Who cares, as well as our other energy problems we are terrorizing our parents with risks of neurotoxic chemicals on our own shores.

Mercury could well be the cause of autism, ADD, ADHD but we keep on pumping.

This is another way we can be hitting the Republican policies hard. What about our kids? How will this effect Medicaid or our overstretched education system?

These are the real issue, fight for them.

Feeling helpless with the media?

Sun May 29, 2005 at 03:56:52 AM PDT

We could always get as many donations as possible and buy some add space, putting forward the issues as we see them, chosen in some democratically correct fashion.

Maybe even some cable news add time, I hear it's not all that expensive.

I am sure with the resources here it could be pulled off. It would also be good for DailyKos.

Just a thought.

Evolution article (Skeptical Enquirer)

A good resource for the background of evolution in one article. Also please support this magazine! It's available at places like Borders, or you can subscribe. A great read for the critical thinker. One of the few publications that makes me feel more intelligent, but they need support.

Also there is a great article on distributed energy in last months, which is also on line.

Campaign finance, how to move forward.

Wed Dec 15, 2004 at 10:00:42 AM PDT

The Dems are indeed attacking the grass routes. MoveOn counter by saying they own the party, due to the amount of money they raised, opening a new era in campaign financing. While I agree that it's great regular people donated so much to the political parties this year, I think we could be doing our selves a disservice. Think about it this way, we work for companies; come corporate we make them money. If we are to give up on Campaign finance reform we are moving in to an era, where Dem's who the corporate world believe are anti-business due to their support of minimum wage etc are going to have to increasingly look to the people for finance. We cannot compete with big business who will at the end of the day give more money to the Republicans. We work for them and must then finance our own political battles to get a fair deal, if I were sitting on the other side, on the board at Wal-Mart or Clear Channel I would be giggling to myself about that.

Chomsky as a progressive icon.

Mon Dec 13, 2004 at 07:26:02 AM PDT

Ok I don't want to come off as a Moore or Clinton hater, but having watched the general consensus thinking the answers are with Clinton, Moore and MoveOn I wanted to put together who I believe should help us form a better future.

Time to support a third party?

Fri Nov 19, 2004 at 08:47:12 AM PDT

Neither party is in a position to educate the voter, any party who tried would be slapped down as condescending. We need somebody to stand up and say "if every one of you bought a car that got 10 miles per gallon extra, we would be much closer to energy independence. We would have less pollution, which would decrease the cost of Medicare.". Nobody will do that.

We are again forced to fight for the Democrats to make sure we don't have a 3rd term of GOP. But both parties are up to their necks in special interests. Do you really believe going to a meeting will have any effect on this? No they will still pretend to listen while still pandering and porking. It's the system that's at fault not policies; we cannot blame this mess on the media alone. We have to attempt to change the perception of people around us because nobody in either party has the balls to do it.

Sinclair - an idea of how many of us are working at this

Thu Oct 21, 2004 at 10:06:21 AM PDT

I just got off a conference call with Jimmy John's, they have received "literally millions of emails" about the Sinclair boycott.

Gives you an idea what our numbers are and what sort of waves we are making. It was hard for me to estimate if it was a few thousand people doing the boycott or more, it does appear that there are at least hundreds of thousands of people actively taking part.

Keep up the good work everybody!

Bush being corrected by crowd video

Wed Oct 20, 2004 at 06:02:58 AM PDT

On last night's daily show, Jon Steward showed a video of Bush at a campaign event being corrected by the crowd. Does anybody know where I can find a link? More than any other video this makes him look like a fool.
