Women for John McCain website

Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 09:52:25 AM PDT

I stumbled across this great website with tons of information for women considering voting for John McSame.  I can't believe the McCain campaign didn't reserve this domain name.

Breaking: "Big" John Cornyn is an idiot. w/ video

Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 08:41:13 AM PDT

Check out this campaign video from "Big" John Cornyn, running for re-election against Kossack Rick Noriega for U.S. Senate in the great state of Texas.  I can't tell if this is snark, or if it's a serious ad for his supporters.

Knowing the mind of Texas GOP voters, I would guess it's serious.  My favorite line is when the narrator says he's doing the Lord's work in Washington for Texas.  Hopefully everyone gets a good laugh this morning like I did.

I got my IRS "rebate": Now what?

Fri May 02, 2008 at 12:26:05 PM PDT

Like many Americans this week, I received my IRS rebate via direct deposit today for $1,200.00.  I guess I should be grateful, but I really don't see how this passes for sound economic policy.  But then again, we're talking about the Bush administration.  So what should I do with my new found riches?

On hiatus until SHE drops out

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 11:31:41 AM PDT

I've been following this primary process closely since last year, and have finally reached the point where I need to take a step back, a break, from following this race day-to-day, closely, to the point of almost obsession.

Conversation with my father

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 06:04:38 PM PDT

I called my father in California today to catch up on family matters and discuss a little politics before super tuesday tommorow, and ended up with a very interesting insight on the mindset of one specific older voter.

Please: No Harry Potter spoiler diaries

Tue Jul 17, 2007 at 01:37:12 PM PDT

I am sure many here are eagerly awaiting the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows this coming Friday night/ Saturday morning.  I know I'll be at my local Barnes & Noble on Friday night, drinking pumpkin juice, eating Honeydukes' chocolates, and waiting for the stroke of midnight so I can buy my copy of the last Potter novel.

J.K. Rowling has done an excellent job in creating Harry and his wizarding world, and has me at the edge of my seat wondering what will ultimately happen to Harry, Voldemort, Ron, Hermione, and everyone else.  Even as an almost middle aged adult, I can't remember a series of novels that have been better crafted than Harry Potter, and have clearer lessons on good vs. evil, and loyalty and friendship.

I have already seen some news stories about details of the novel leaking out, and I think I'm going to have to try to avoid the internet somewhat until Sunday.  Hopefully no one on this site will post any spoiler info, and we can all enjoy the novel and be surprised at the end.

I wish everyone happy reading, and remember:  Voldemort is a Republican.

Texas Kossacks: I didn't vote in yesterday's primary. Now what?

Wed Mar 08, 2006 at 06:50:48 AM PDT

Primary day came and went yesterday in Texas, and I didn't make it to the polls.  Now, I have some interesting options for the fall.

First of all, I live in southern Denton county, Texas.  This probably is one of the reddest areas in the huge red state of Texas.  ALL of the action for local races was on the GOP side.  I'm not sure if there even was one Democrat who filed for a local race.  So, even though I usually try to vote each time, there was absolutely no reason for me to go to the polls yesterday.

Homophobia quiz - What did you score?

Fri Jan 20, 2006 at 08:40:15 AM PDT

Here is a fun quiz designed to gauge your level of homophobia.  I thought it would be interesting to see where you stand in this day and age of Brokeback Mountain, TransAmerica, Rick Santorum, Pat Robertson, etc.  I scored 15 - High grade non-homophobic.

I'm not sure what score you would have to get to be considered "raging right-wing homophobic hater", but maybe we can get "Man-on-Dog Santorum" to take the quiz to see where he stands.

Take the quiz:

School district calls for O'Reilly retraction

Wed Dec 14, 2005 at 07:31:21 AM PDT

On Friday, December 9th, Bill O'Lielly claimed on his "show" that the Plano, TX ISD had banned kids from wearing red and green because they are Christmas colors.

"That's flat-out fascism," he said during a segment on The O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel.

Of course, he was flat-out wrong.  The school district has never prohibited wearing green and red colors during Christmas time.  They are demanding a retraction. Below the fold is the entire article from today's Dallas Morning News on the subject.  So far, O'Lielly has refused to retract his comments, and appears to be hiding behind litigation that has nothing to do with wearing red or green for Christmas.  I guess the War on Christmas rages on..

A View of Harriet Miers' tenure on the Dallas City Council.

Tue Oct 04, 2005 at 08:19:02 AM PDT

Below is a column by James Ragland of the Dallas Morning News.  He is a columnist on the Metro Section, covering local issues, government, etc.  He is African-American is generally considered a liberal voice in the paper.

I guess this is just more food for thought in trying to discover just who Harriet Miers is.

Cronyism run amok

Tue Sep 20, 2005 at 02:05:13 PM PDT

This is an interesting rant from, of all places, Michelle Malkin, on Bush's nomination of Julie Myers to head the U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement agency under DHS.  She's actually making a good point this time, about how morally bankrupt this administration is when making federal appointments.  We can all see what the effects of unqualified crony appointments are in the recent FEMA / Mike "Brownie" fiasco.

It appears that all that matters to the Bushies is if you support them politically and are well connected, then you are qualified for any goverment job.  This job requires top notch law enforcement, managerial, and legal experience.  It appears Ms. Myer's main qualifications are that she is Gen. Richard Myer's daugher, and just married DHS sect Chertoff's chief of staff.  Shameful.

Julie Myers
