Wednesday the senate will vote on Telcom Immunity and giving the President sweeping powers of surveillance. This warrantless search and seizure is totally unnecessary and unconstitutional.

The NRCC says its former treasurer, Christopher J. Ward, likely made "several hundred thousand dollars in unauthorized transfers of NRCC funds to outside committees whose bank accounts he had access to, including joint fund raising committees in which the NRCC participated. He also appears to have made subsequent transfers of several hundred thousand dollars in funds from those outside committees to what appear to be his personal and business bank accounts."

Thu Feb 14, 2008 at 11:30:11 AM PDT
Just when I thought I'd heard everything I came across this on BBC. This is obviously so wrong on so many levels I am at a loss for words.
Human Rights Watch has appealed to Saudi Arabia to halt the execution of a woman convicted of witchcraft.
In a letter to King Abdullah, the rights group described the trial and conviction of Fawza Falih as a miscarriage of justice.
The illiterate woman was detained by religious police in 2005 and allegedly beaten and forced to fingerprint a confession that she could not read.

Wed Jan 24, 2007 at 01:20:09 PM PDT
I like to keep track of issues in the mid-east and often find articles of interest in the Israeli press. I think my fellow kossacks may find them of interest also. I'll start with an intriguing analysis in the Jerusalem Post regarding Democratic Presidential candidates and the Jewish vote.

I found this to be an interesting no-holds barred analysis from a different perspective.
I would provide excerpts but feel they would detrct from the whole.
Yes, there is apartheid in Israel
Sat Jan 13, 2007 at 02:37:44 PM PDT
In the onslaught against Jimmy Carter's new book, the underlying theme has been that Israel does not practice apartheid. This is simply not true. Israel has historically practiced and supported apartheid, it was one of the last states supporting South Africa's racist regime. An article by a former Israeli Education Minister, Shulamit Aloni, clarifies in this full article link. www.arabamericannews.com/newsarticle.php?articleid=7251
